Australia’s known for its coffee culture, and Hervey Bay does not disappoint when it comes to places to indulge in copious amounts of coffee. We’ve done the leg work and found plenty of coffee havens to suit all of your caffeine (smoothie, milkshake, cakes or otherwise!) needs. Here are just a few of our favourites:
The Front Room
Nestled above a holistic healing Haven, you could easily walk past The Front Room… but this isn’t a place you want to miss! It’s first floor location provides a unique view out towards the beach, unhindered by the passing traffic outside. Walking inside you are transported to a haven with the cool vibes of an edgy inner city cafe, with a menu unlike anything you’ll find elsewhere in Hervey Bay. If you’re of the vegan persuasion this is the place for you! But even if you’re not there’s plenty to tempt. It’s smoothies are a little dearer, but is definitely worth it. With great music, magazines (including colouring books for grown-ups!) and tasty beverages you’ll find yourself wanting to stay for hours.
Aquavue is a great spot for a coffee and a snack, with a huge selection of hot and cold drinks on offer and delicious cakes and deserts for great value. Arguably most beautiful in the morning, you can look out over the sea with as the sun rises, but before it reaches its midday heat! You’ll most likely be tempted to turn your morning treat into brunch, as plates piled high drift out of the kitchen onto tables nearby. The milkshakes and thickshakes are also definitely worth a try; or a fresh fruit smoothie or frappe if you’re in need of refreshing.
Walking into Bayaroma you are instantly made to feel welcome, with friendly staff on hand to greet you. We indulged in their decadent hot chocolate (which came topped with cream and marshmallows – a big plus for me!) and an affogato. If you’ve never tried one before – like we hadn’t – or are a fan waiting to get your affogato fix in Hervey Bay we’d definitely recommend it. Likewise, if you’re more of a straight-up coffee person, they’ve got all you need with great quality coffee and speedy service. These guys are really passionate about their coffee, and will happily explain the whats, wheres, and whys to you!
If you’re craving ‘proper’ coffee but aren’t sure whether there’s space for it in the traveller budget, we’ve found just the spot. It’s the perfect way to combat the afternoon lull, trading a nap for an hour or two with your nose in a book and the necessary caffeine hit! With half price hot drinks from 2-3pm Monday to Friday, it’s definitely worth the 10 minute cycle from Woolshed. And if you’re looking for a new read you can take a wonder round the bookshop or pick up one of the books from the coffee tables, there for you to dip into as you sip away.
Have a read of our cycle blog and make one of these a tasty pit stop.
