Isabelle & Flo, two of our Woolshed backpackers, were recently on a 3-day / 2-night tour on Fraser Island with Cool Dingo. Here’s what they experienced:
We decided to go on a 3-day / 2-night Fraser Island tour with Cool Dingo. We booked our tour with the Woolshed, which allowed us to store our heavy backpacks in the hostel for the two nights for free.
Day 1
In the morning of the first day we got picked up by a bus at 7:20 am right in front of the Woolshed.
At 9 am we entered the ferry, which got us to Fraser Island in around 40 minutes.
The tour started immediately and our first stop was Lake McKenzie. Definitely the most beautiful lake we have ever seen.
After having an all you can eat buffet lunch, which was very good, we had a walk through the rain forest, where we spotted a huge snake! We saw Basin Lake on the first day as well, a holy lake to the Aborigines.
In the evening we watched a nice sunset at the Sunset Bar. After having dinner we were pretty exhausted and just went to bed to be fit for the next morning.
Day 2
The next day started at 7:30 am and we headed to the colored sands, a unique scenery on Fraser Island. After driving on the 75-Mile-Beach we arrived at the Indian Head, a great lookout over the sea and the beach.
We took a nice swim in the Champaign pools and afterwards went tubing in Eli Creek. So much fun! The SS Maheno wreck was another stunning stop on our tour. We were able to take lots of beautiful pictures.
We had lunch on the beach and dinner in our accommodation, a 4 bed dorm which was really nice as well.
Day 3
On day three we started early again, so we would not get stuck behind a lot of cars and other tours. We went to Lake Birrabeen, where we enjoyed a free Stand Up Paddle Board. One of the most beautiful lakes on our three-day tour was Lake Wabby, which we visited after. An incredible scenery: Desert all around and then a green wall of trees with the lake in front, unbelievable! To get there we had to walk the “walk of death”, which was actually not too hard 🙂
After taking a shower we entered the ferry again to head back to Hervey Bay. We were so sad that we had to leave that beautiful island. We cannot recommend highly enough to go there! (Of course we recommend the Cool Dingo 3 day tour as well, as our guide Davy was the best guide you could possibly have!!!)
We will never forget that great three-day adventure and will definitely go back to Fraser Island again someday!
